Some things, while small, must not be underestimated. Such a thing is EUREKA: THE NATIONAL CHILDREN’S MUSEUM. This hidden wonder, based in Halifax, West Yorkshire is a museum created purely for children. They combine education with enjoyment, resulting in effective learning and lasting memories. Their specially designed workshops ignite children’s passion for knowledge. At Eureka! Nothing is trapped inside a glass cabinet for people to just stare at and leave. They are the only fully interactive museum totally dedicated to children aged 0-11 anywhere in the UK. Eureka! is a unique place for families and groups to visit, where children are inspired to learn all about themselves and the world around them by playing, learning and – above all – having fun.
The name itself comes from the story of Archimedes, when the ancient Greek philosopher discovered a method to work out the true volume of a Golden Wreath crown, commissioned by the Greek king Hiero, in honour of the gods. This was done after that it was rumoured that the goldsmith creating the crown had cheated king Hiero, mixing in silver with the gold. Most of us know the story of how he discovered the idea while in the bath, and then he ran through the streets, yelling, “Eureka!” (I’ve Got It!).
This museum is fit for all children, no matter the age. Its mission of teaching children through interactive play is excellent. It’s perfect for a day out with your family, friends, or even in a school trip.
