In the morning we began with the register. Then we did maths, which was mostly counting. After that it was playtime.
I will take this moment to say something; at the start, I felt very nervous. My Teacher was called Miss Jones, and she was very kind. I had made a few friends the year before and they were the best people to talk and play with. Miss Jones started a challenge called the ‘marble in the monster jar’. When we were good, we had to put a marble in a ‘monster jar’. When the jar was full of marbles, we were given a party on that Friday, and we would also get given a certificate at the assembly.
After the playtime was over, we had to do literacy, which was mostly writing simple words such as ‘morning’ or ‘evening’. After that, it was lunch. We had to sit in the dining hall for the first time in our life. We were all scared because we had never eaten lunch in the hall before, so there were many new things happening. After lunch, we had to do reading. This was with another teacher, called Mrs Clark, who took us outside the classroom, either by ourselves, or with the other students on my table. Then we had to read a small story to her, and she would help us to pronounce the words that we could not say. We also did something called phonics, which also helped us with the words.
I also remember a trip to the chocolate factory that we went to. It was fun and we were allowed to taste some of the sweets that they made.
Now I am in year 5, and I also would like to say something – year one was an unforgettable year.
